Bangkok - Chatuchak Markets

Sunday 29th October
Bangkok Discovery - Chatuchak Markets & MBK

Down to breakfast at 6.30am. Great array of breakfast food and lovely freshly perked coffee. We walked down to Nana Skytrain station and bought a day pass for 100bt each. The train took us all the way to the markets near the Mochit station. It was still very early and the stalls were just opening. Great time to see the markets as it wasn't very crowded. It started to rain but we managed to keep under cover. There were rows and rows of stalls. It gets very smelly and claustrophobic, specially in the animal sections.

After a couple of hours we decided to find some airconditioning. We hopped back on the skytrain and headed for Siam Station and the MBK Shopping Centre. Wow, shopping heaven, 7 floors with 100's of shops. We wandered around for a few hours and bought a T-Shirt and sunglasses. We finally tired of the shops and hopped back on the skytrain and headed for the Chao Phraya River.

The river was swollen and smelly, there had been quite a lot of rain in the previous month. We walked along the streets near the Shangrila and Oriental hotels. It didn't take us long in Bangkok before we were approached by a nice friendly gentleman offering a special deal on a Tuk Tuk ride. Luckily we were aware of the con and politely refused. We decided to catch a cab to the nearest skytrain station and head back to the hotel for a rest.

Late in the afternoon we went in search of an internet cafe to send some emails. It cost us 45bt for one hour. We bought a couple of useful maps of Thailand then back to the hotel for a quick shower then out to dinner. We caught the skytrain to Asoke station then went in search of the Lemongrass Restaurant. It was a fantastic place set in an old thai house. Service and food was great, specially the crispy duck. Back to the hotel on the skytrain. The day pass on the BTS was well worth it.
