When I met Nate we went to a Bookcrossing meeting in a Chinese Restaurant. He is in an internet organization called www.bookcrossing.com and they are exchanging books worldwide.
Later we went to his home and he showed me all his computers, he is a real linux freak.
Day 43 - June 15
The morning I spent at the computer to organize a self-organized bus tour in New Zealand. The bus prices are more complicated then the train ticket prices of the Deutsche Bahn in Germany and I ever thought there is nothing more complicated in the world.
After searching, planning and booking I had a good trip around after 2 hours.
My travel plan:
On June 17. a bus trip from Christchurch to Queenstown with SuperSaver25-Price
On June 20. a bus trip from Queenstown to Fox Glacier with SuperSaver50-Price
On June 22. a bus trip from Fox Glacier to Greymouth with SuperSaver25-Price
On June 23. a train trip with the TranzAlpine from Greymouth to Christchurch with the Winter Special Price.
On June 24. a bus trip from Christchurch to Picton with a special price for $10 connected with a ferry trip to Wellington on the North Island for a normal price.
On June 26. a bus trip from Wellington to Taupo with SuperSaver50-Price
On June 27. a bus trip from Taupo to Auckland with SuperSaver50-Price
On June 29. I fly on to Santiago de Chile.
For all around I pay $NZ 323 which is about 190 Euro.
After managing all this I walked into the city. When I reached the Cathedral I found a Celtic Prayer with soungs from Taizé, that was great. Taizé down under.
Christchurch Cathedral
Later I walked along the track of the touristical tram. $12,50 for a 2 kilometer (1.3 miles) round for driving with this tram was a little bit to expensive. The track runs along the interesting touristical part of the inner city.
The touristical tram
Later Steve, a german work an traveller girl, wanted to sell me a bus round trip in New Zealand. After telling her abount my bookings two hours before we talked a little bit about travelling. But then she had to work on and we met one hour later after her work.
Later we met again with some other backpackers in the food court at the bus station.
On my way home on the evening I did a supermarked stopover to fill up Nates fridge a little bit.
Day 44 - June 16
This day I did more sightseeing in Christchurch. I have been to the Botanic Gardens.
Tropical House in the Botanic Gardens
Roses in the winter
a salad garden
Later I had lunch and then I had a guided tour in the Cathedral. It is great to have a christian church for all confessions together. Every day there is another prayer.
Inside the church (Thanx computer for crashing this picture)
Another interesting detail is a with Jesus painted window without any color in his face. Everybody should be free to imagine Jesus in black or white.
The view from the Cathedral Tower
Later I met Steve for a coffee and the evening I spent with Nate. He came home a little bit later then me and so I used the time at one of all his computers to update my german diary.
Christchurch was a great city. Not too big and not too small. All the people are very friendly.
