My uncle Alexander had invited me to climb Germanys highest mountain with him. We had then arranged a date which turned out to be the worst we could have chosen: the whole area was flooded!

The second day (tuesday) started with continuous rain. We slept in and while having breakfast the hut guard told us that the city of Garmisch-Patnekirchen had announced red alert and that we definitely shoud refrain from climbing up to the summit. The meteorologists stil expected some heavy rainfalls and the gully on the way up would then be very dangerous!
Some time later two guys shortly showed up who were on their way down from the summit, telling us that it was possible to climb but no fun. They were soaked...
In the afternoon the rain diminished and we decided to have at least a short walk around the hut.
dismal prospects...

Down in the valley one could see all the flooded areas so it was no surprise to hear that all roads leaving Ehrwald were closed due to water and mudflows.
Even if we would have decided to descend, we could not have left town.

When we finally went to bed after having spent most of the day inside there were nearly no magazines left I had not read...
