Bolivia 2008

La Paz - Nov 12

Arriving by plane to La Paz can be a unique flight experience. Already briefly after take-off in Iquique (a further stop-over made in Chile), the aircraft began with the landing preparations. But we were not sinking actually! Instead, the ground was approaching the plane. To avoid that passengers will collapse when disembarking the plane in La Paz at 4000m altitude, the oxygene was already reduced during the second leg of the flight, to "acclimatise" the passengers to the altitude. So it was a very breath-taking landing.

View from the plane when landing in El Alto. Mount Illimani (6400m) is seen in the background.
