Day 95 - August 6
On the morning I did a trip to the Itaipu Power Station, at the moment the biggest hydro power station in the world. With changing the public bus twice I arrived there a little bit to late for their guided tour but I could follow the tour. I wanted to meet a girl from Hungary I met at the waterfalls but I could not find her. First there was a high-polished-advertising-movie for Itaipu Binacional. Then a bus trip to the wall, they call it monument. They explained very often how big and wonderful Itaipu Binacional is. After driving over the wall there was time to visit their museum.
What an advertising show for this high corruped project.
A few facts:
The lake is between Brazil and Paraguay. The power is 12.4 Gigawatts at the moment and they are upgrading to 14 Megawatts. 95% of the electricity of Paraguay is produced there. 18 generators with 700 megawatt each are in use and the most are running on a frequency of 60 Hz. A 750 kV-powerline is built to Sao Paulo.
Later I drove back to the Brazilian Iguacu town, there was some time left to visit this town and then my ultra-long-distance trip to Rio departed.
