Chile - Bolivia 2006

Travel time: March / April 2006  |  by Valerie Couarraze

A long time ago I decided to travel to South America - to Argentina or Chile. First no money as a student, then no time as a (hard-)worker. But now my little brother and his friends are spending 6 months over there on their globe-trotter-trip. So no poor excuse anymore. I pack my shoes.

My flight starts from Francfort/M, Germany to Santiago de Chile and returns from La Paz, Bolivia. We will backpack from Santiago up to the North until the boarder travelling by bus or train.

Just before living Germany

Mentally preparing to leave my street in Karlsruhe, my appartment and the poor, sad, cold weather behind me. No big deal, I think I'll make it.

My street. Ok, have to admit that the weather tried to be nice on that day... For the first time since ages.

My house... (for those who are still planning to visit me - LIKE THE FRENCH FROGS!!)

Guess what it is?
Exactly! Typical Siberian weather in Karlsruhe as of March, 13. -6°C at least. Definitively have to get out of here quickly. Just wondering what temperatures will be like in Chile at 6000 meters...

I think I got everything now: yellow fever injection, water tabs, sleeping bag for the nights under stars, shorts and plenty of sun cream for Atacama desert, poncho and boots for Parinacota mountain, swimming suit for Titicaca sea (don't even know if swimming possible at this height). And also very important: Iwanowski's, Lonely Planet, one good book & my diary.

What is one of the nicest way to start chilling out on your first vacation day? Breakfast with a good friend! Thanks Steffi, I enjoyed it a lot (by the way I love your cd)!
