Geneve part 2

We then stumbled upon the Cathedral Saint Pierre. The guidebook says...

"There has been a cathedral on this site since the 12th century, but the building you see today dates mainly from the 16th century- it's austere interior reflects the style and philosophy of Calvinist times. It was here that John Calvin preached between 1536 and 1564.

"The view of the city and the surrounding Jura and Alps from the North Tower is worth the climb."

So we climbed...

And then we climbed up to the watch tower on the other side. From what we understand from the signs in French, for centuries a man was posted up there to watch for emergencies. I would assume it was his job to watch for fire, invasion, etc. He would then record the location and then blow a long horn to alert the authorities. The sign said he was replaced by the telephone in 1911. Sad.

The trip

Description:
Well folks, I'm on the road again in Europe. PT Geneva is this weekend and Renee and I are site visiting again. I have to be a little more subtle about where I'm site visiting. I don't want to inadvertantly leak confidential information. But I figure it doesn't matter. If you are checking this site, you probably know where I am. :)
