Backpacking (Western) Europe

Travel time: April 2004  |  by Christina E.

Switzerland: Bern

Day 17:

Jene and I decided to buck outta Geneva and head to Interlaken instead. On our train ride there, we met Alex, Sandra (Alex's "assistant") and Jeff sitting a few seats away. They bought us some beer and persuaded us to get off at Bern with them for the night. We shrugged, why not?

They recommended us a great hostel and took us to dinner at a fabulous Mongolian restaurant. We also met their banker friend, John, his girlfriend Crystal, and her friend 'Grandma Jean'. We ate, drank and laughed with our newfound, albeit much older, friends.

After dinner, Alex suggested we go salsa dancing. He took us to the Shakira Club, for some Colombian salsa, and served us rum with (not enough) Coke in the VIP section of the club. Within the hour, we were all pretty lit.

Alex was dancing so fast (fast for someone of his size) that 'Grandma Jean' was shocked. She kept saying 'But... he's so fat! So fat! How can he move like that?' Well, its just like the story I tell my friends of the time when a hefty girl beat me in a race up the stairs. You don't think it's possible, but you get proven wrong.
