All good things come in threes.

Travel time: November / December 2011  |  by Konstanze G.

Vientiane

Vientiane is the largest city in Laos and the capital of Laos.

Now no longer cows, ducks or any other kind of poulty are wandering down the dusty streets. Traffic jams have now replaced livestock in the streets in the once nostalgic forgotten capital of Laos. I had the pleasure to see the non-cemented banks of the Mekong river 4 years ago. Now cement has taken over. Ventiane has been developed and appears to have undergone a makeover.

Traces of those French colonialists and a whiff of fresh-baked baguettes can still be found. The tree lined boulevards are still magic and any traffic jam can still be endured.

It is great to sit in one of those colonial cafes and have a drink watching life pass by.

Vientiane is no longer as original as 4 years ago but still a fantastic little capital once forgotten, now no longer.

That Luang

That Luang

That Luang is a large gold covered stupa in the centre of Vientiane. That Luang is a national symbol of Laos and regarded as an imporntant national monument in Laos. It is thought to have been established around the 3rd century.
