To plan a round-the-world trip is not so easy then one week on the Mediterranean Sea all inclueded. So there was a lot to prepare.
Backpack:
I travelled in some different climate zones from the hot weather in Asia to winter in New Zealand. So I needed a lot of clothes but I did not wanted to carry too much stuff. So it was not very easy to back my backpack
Accommodation:
Many nights I have stayed in backpacker hostels and cheap hotels I found in the Lonely Planet, Internet, from recommendations or on arrival. Some other nights I spent in planes, trains and buses. Twice I visited people from the international
Hospitality Club
, website availible in english. In Santiago I had a "Taizé-Connection", somebody I met on her Europe Tour in Taizé, invited her to Cologne and visited her in Chile now.
The Hospitality Club is a really good organisation because you can safe money and you meet interesting people and explore new culture.
Cruising around:
Most of the trips I did on buses, sometimes I took trains. In South America I had to drive a lot, so I spent 10 nights on buses there.
Inoculation:
I had beside normal inoculation Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid fever and yellow fever. Yellow fever was only to cross borders in South America, but nobody checked it. I have not been to a yellow-fever area, but in the yellow-fever-countries Peru and Brazil.
Health Insurance:
When you travel around the world, the normal german health insurance company does not pay what ever can happen in exotic countries. So I needed a special insurance and after comparing some companies I got a good offer for 67 Euro from the Victoria Insurance Company.
First accommodation:
For my first 2 nights in Bangkok I made a reservation for a hostel on the internet (4,95$ per night in a 6er dorm room).
After all these preparements my trip could begin. Every few days I have been to an internet cafe to publish my diary in German for my friends and family. I also took a lot of digital photos.
My idea of this english version of my diary is to share my travel experiences with all english speaking people I met. But please understand that it will take some time to complete this diary.
