Hey
I just wanted to say I loved reading your blog - your style of writing is so easy to read and I love the little 'price comments' all the way through!

We're going to Vietnam and Laos in April for 3 weeks and plan to do your trip through Laos but backwards. I already know that 3 weeks won't be long enough when I want to spend days on end kicking back under a tree watching locals....

Thanks so much for all your tips and well done you for embarking on all of that alone!
Kelly 1264096942000
Hi Jenny!
Great page! I am embarking on my own adventure traveling 2 1/2 months through basically your route backward from Hanoi through Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Any suggestions on how to do it? Also, how long would you suggest I spend in each place?
anonymous 1257176344000

Excellent description of your travels, Jenny!! I felt I was there with you! And as I'm about the undertake the same venture in a few days (well, Chiang Mai, Pai, and slow boat into Laos and around), it was a great preview! Thanks for sharing!!
Glenn 1226321389000
Jenny,
The Brit in your pic taken in Suk11 is me! I remember that crazy night, so much fun. I'm at the back of the pic. Funny, I found the pic on the net by chance! I'm heading back there yet again in December and staying at Suk11. - Glenn.

Hey Jenny,
Thanks for the cool info. I am heading over to Bali, Thailand, malaysia, Laos and Cambodia for a month and your journal really helped answer a few of my questions. Thanks and happy travels in the future.

Jenny, thank you for a great travelogue and photos... very entertaining, informative and inspirational. I travelled in Thailand and Vietnam last year and later this year will be returning to SE Asia (from Australia) & those countries plus Laos and Cambodia, visiting most of the places you wrote about.
In Bangkok, I stayed at Suk 11 hostel and also suffered blistered feet from walking in sandals so immediately connected with you on discovering your blog.
I can't wait for July 2008 and all those great places, lovely people and wonderful food (and beer).
Take care, Tom
john nuch 1204831070000
Jenny, your travelogue has truly been inspirational. I've done a bit of travelling myself but hadn't really blogged extensively about my travels the way you did. I stumbled upon this site while googling "happy pizza" (haha, I know I know) and I got lost in your adventures for about an hour. Thanks again for posting your stories!

Steve 1202368620000
Hi Jenny, this is a *fantastic* travelogue you've written about your experiences in SE Asia. I've been doing numerous short hops in region over the years, but your blog has inspired me to try something longer.

Hey Jenny,
I loved reading your travel log! It was great getting some insight into being a solo female traveller in SE Asia, and its also nice to know that you didn't waste away from lack of vegetarian food options as that is something I'm kind of worried about.
Alan 1187034562000
Just wanted to say keep up the travel writing, it was quite enjoyable reading your journals, even during work hours I sneak a few peaks to read more. I am planning a similar trip to Asia around March08 for the same amount of time or more.
Cheers!

Jenny..........My daughter, Amalia Miller, sent me the link to your "fabulous" travels.I assume you two knew each other from UCLA days...........I am planning a trip to Laos and Myanmar in January and am finding your diary very helpful. I've been traveling the world for nearly 40 years to over 100 countries and still prefer the back pact method.Do look us up should you find yourself in San Francisco................Randy

Hi Jenny,
Sounds like you had a great deal of fun during your travels. I travelled through viet and Cambodia earlier this year and had some awesome experiences, so much so that I am returning in 06 with a Kayak and going from China all the way to Delta, Anyway hope you manage to get back there again.
Cheers

I love your website, great to read about other people's travels! I did the same last year (2004/2005) and loved it, 12 months on the road. I did a travel blog but it has been taken off the server now, although I still do another website for people travelling in Vietnam to arrange journeys with easy-riders in Dalat... have a look at www.easy-riders.net - would be great if you could leave a message or two in the forum about places you've travelled - any useful information/recommendations are always appreciated by other travellers using the site! All the best, kind regards, Luke Wordsworth
Paul 1130139817000
Great effort! Just had me glued to the monitor for a couple of hours. Would just like to compliment you on your writing, perseverance and bravery for travelling solo backpacking to some of the places, an Asian would think thrice about going to unescorted. I was at Chiang Khong jetty last Sept and was looking across the Mekong at Huay Xai with travelust but alas did not make to Laos as time did not permit.
Look forward to reading your future adventures and may you be always safe and happy!
Thanks for your entertaining travelogue.
anonymous 1125491424000
I visited the same places in Laos last year & your photo's are a reminder of a great holiday.

Thanks.

Hi,

I don't usually sign guestbooks, but I've spent so long reading your pades, It would be too cheeky not to.

I spent some time in Laos and Cambodia a few months ago and was so enamoured that I'm going back next month. Can't wait to drink a bia lao and take a massage.

Thanks for your stories, you've made me more excited than I already was.

Jenny,
Very much enjoyed seeing your pictures of China. Where was Shilin rock forest? That looked very cool. My guesses, which are probably way off, are that in the beginning you're in Yunnan province, wearing the traditional minority group clothing? And the last few pictures of the old-style architecture- are you on a mountain in Sichuan province? That's what they remind me of. I guess you're back in CA? I'll be back in late August or early July, not sure yet! I'll see you back there!

Hello-NI HOW! I'm now in Shanghai. Just four more days left in my travels before I head home to California. I am feeling a mixed bag of emotions, sad to end my travels-I really can go on for many more months. Happy to soon be enjoying the comfort of home and family/friends. Anyway, I know I'm a bit behind in the travelogue, but please check back again as my unemployed self will be updating it as soon as possible in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, please check out my photos on OFOTO, I have most of them uploaded now, including new Vietnam and China pics!

Cheers!

Heya Hey-Hey Now! Turned off by the I-net, I've tuned out for over a month now. Damn you and your jungle forays! Curiosity has trumped complacency and compelled me to fire up the ole CPU to check in on the latest Asian AdJenture...*groan* Mixed feelings as I realize the trip is down to its last leg: How to reconcile my desire to see Jen with how much I want to continue my second-hand sojourn into S.E.A.? I suppose above all else, thanks are in order. Thank You for taking the time and making the effort to introduce us, in full sensory style, to the various jungle hamlets and bustling metros you've encountered - you present us the sounds, smells and tastes, the feel of each area, and you submit in photos what words cannot capture. Your personal edification is our collective education, and I'll stop here before I get too mushy/gushy! All the best and brightest blessings to you, and a safe journey home to boot. (And please remember to heed the "Don't Stomp the Sea Urchins" signs! )

Hi Jenny,
My apologies, if my earlier request for photographs was construed as a critisism of your wonderful travelogue.
I was aware of the earlier photographs from Thailand, however I was just keen to see more of your photographs, particulary from Laos.

Sorry for the confusion, and once again, best of luck.

Hey,
It sounds like you're having a great trip!
I went through the same area in 2000... your pictures of Ko Tao are very familiar. Did you go to Vang Vieng (did I spell that right?) in Laos? It's beautiful.
I also went to Cambodia and Angkor Wat. It's not to be missed!

Anyway, have a great trip! This fellow Californian (San Diego) is envious. But I'm going to India (Lakdakh) trekking in June, so I won't be envious for long...

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. Makes me feel my cash and time at the good ol internet for this travelogue has been worth it. Laos btw, was most excellent, but the internet here has been slow. I will try to update the travelogue once I find a decent cafe in Cambodia. Will be in Cambodia through end of March.

Scott 1079149606000
Hi Jenny!

brilliant stuff. truly. your pictures are a wonderful complement to the prose (omigod, that boy bathing in a bucket is even more precious than i thought possible), but better than the way you capture and relate your experiences is the wanderlust you exude day in and day out. and i, for one, will never tire of any epicurean embellishments...i so envy you all that fresh food and new flavors and and and! more menus!! =D

take care of you and keep tossing those scraps to your captive audience back home! speaking of home, the winter storms (fierce, by bay area standards) have all but passed, replaced by some of the most unseasonably warm, languid weather we've had. yep - 75 and sweltering in san fran!

Living vicariously through you,
Scott

it was very interesting to read about your time in Ban Krut! I was only yesterday over there and went for a swim, the water is a bit better than in Bang Saphan, where I live. After reading your narrative, we now know that you prepped and primed yourself aplenty for this trip - but did anyone send word to the S.E.Asians that Jen-Jen was on the loose and headed their way?? Email me your itinerary so that I can have a stack of reference manuals ready for you at your next stop...first and foremost will be, "How to Say 'Too Hot!' in Seven Asian Languages."

So happy to trace each of your hot & sticky steps from the cold, wind-whipped gloom of stormy San Francisco; I know infinitely more happens between breakfast each morning and the time you're back in bed than you could ever try to capture for your audience, but you do a great job of pulling us right through the screen and into the daily delights and dramas of your brave new world.

You mentioned on one of your first days how you revelled in the ability to wander around and get lost/discover new things by yourself...but the fact of the matter is that you're not completely alone - we're all right (t)here with you, removed a degree or two, but nonetheless hanging on every word and cursing those noodles soaked in chili oil!

Thanks so much for the detailed updates. We miss you but know you'll be back better than ever! Take care of you and please be nice to the natives.

Jenny -

You have just embarked on an incredible journey. I'm so happy that you've done a lot of research, including finding out where to get your visas en route. I wish I was traveling with you so I too can explore the wild side of Jenny Chu as I once did in Portugal and Spain. But I will have to find another adventure to join you on.

I know you have the street smarts that will guide and help you through some of the tougher countries - so i'm not worried - BUT, if you ever need anything - you have my number... and don't worry about calling collect!

Be safe, be smart, and most importantly - have fun and take a lot of pictures so you can share them with your friends!

thinking of you!

Susan
