THAILAND: RIVER KWAI - KANCHANABURI
DAY 3:
At Last!!!...a successful tuk tuk ride to the bus station and we boarded the bus for Kanchanaburi to see the River Kwai. Its sooo cheap here to travel by bus and this 3hr journey cost £1 each. The allied PoW cemetry was very nice as far as cemetries go. Right next to the cemetry there is a new memorial museum commemorating those who lost their lives building the Thai-Burma railway line during WWII. This place was really interesting and definitely worth a visit. We got speaking with the guy from Oz who set the place up and his mate gave a us a ride in his pick-up truck to the bridge over the river kwai. Bridge was good to see and you can actually walk across it if you can manage to dodge the hundreds of Japanese tourists moving along it's length. There is a central walkway 1m wide bewteen the tracks and pretty much nothing else so one false move and you're swimming in the Kwai. That's of course if the train doesn't get you first...yes the bridge is actually still active and in use!!!
