right - the atherton tablelands, what can i tell you about that?! well, first of all i have to say that i was blown away by its beauty!!! i have never ever seen such a lush, green landscape! never ever! so many different types of green, so many hills, so many beautiful waterfalls... i was stunned!
it was one of those perfect moments. the entire journey through the hills and forests i just gazed out the window, mouth open and tried to inhale as much as possible.
i find it really hard to describe how much i loved the landscape and the nature there. we had a fair amount of rain in queensland but we both didn't bother as it is exactly this season now (wet season) that reveals the beauty of this place! everything is so lush, the contrast between the dark blue sky and the green hills is just amazing.
we drove to millaa millaa falls, which are really nice (petite but breath taking) and also to Lake Eacham, a crater lake, and to Tchupala falls, which are very wide and spectacular.
We also had a stroll to the Mobo Crater. On the way are many warning signs for cassowaries - a bird we have not spotted so far - but the signs really make you scared...
...check out the warning sign below and the funny pictures on it...(i wrote below whats written on the picture)
Cassowary warning
left picture> do not turn and run
middle picture> back off slowly watching the bird as you go. If the cassowary becomes aggressive place a solid object such as a tree between you and the bird.
Right picture> If nothing is available, hold an item of clothing or a backpack in front of you and continue to back away slowly.
But luckily we had an experienced cassowary-fighter with us...he protected us with his big stick of any bird-danger...
- to conclude: in europe there is bird flu and in oz there is the danger of cassowaries!
