The South Island: Kaikoura-1st attempt

after taking the ferry across the Cook Strait from Wellington to Picton we drove to Kaikoura on the East Coast of the Southern Island. Kaikoura is famous for its whales - you can do whale-watching tours all year round as the female giant sperm whale (german: Pottwal) rests the entire year in the coastal waters of Kaikoura.

However, when we arrived the weather was horrible and the whale watching tours didnt take place. disappointed we decided to move on and give the weather another chance on our way up...

...but we did see something fantastic: Dozens of Seals completely close-up just lying around at the beach.
