A long time ago I decided to travel to South America - to Argentina or Chile. First no money as a student, then no time as a (hard-)worker. But now my little brother and his friends are spending 6 months over there on their globe-trotter-trip. So no poor excuse anymore. I pack my shoes.
My flight starts from Francfort/M, Germany to Santiago de Chile and returns from La Paz, Bolivia. We will backpack from Santiago up to the North until the boarder travelling by bus or train.

On the way from Valparaiso to San Pedro de Atacama (we travelled by bus as usual since it is the most common and easiest way to move in South America), we crossed plenty of astonishing various landscapes. The farest we drove on the Panamericana up to the North the driest and coldest it became. After the semi-desert between Santiago and Antofagasta with blue sky almost all over the year, green oasis, lots of fruit cultures, it changed to a real desert for hundreds of km. Nothing but rocks and cactuses... but still a lot to discover
Strange feeling of a moon lanscape... here with sea
And in the middle of nowhere a village. People came here to find work which is essentially based on the extraction of saltpeter, coper or silver.
Travelling by bus in Chile is quite comfortable. Buses are well-equiped with TV (hav´nt seen so many movies in such a short time!), bath, blankets and even a water fountain (when it works). They serve hot meals, change your money if you cross a boarder, open the curtains for you in the morning, etc., a full service!
The colours are astonishing especially at sunrise/sunset. It remembered me sometimes at some landscapes seen in Namibia
