Everybody believes that Jamaica is a Reggae country with a lot of Reggae music and dancing. I didn't find it. Maybe I was at the wrong places. I was in Negril, Montago Bay and Ochos Rios. These are the tourist places and the music was techno and rap and 99% of the people were package tourists. I asked some locals about this and got the information that it's hard for the tourist to find the Reggae Jamaica and that Jamaica changed a lot in the last years. So you really should know where to go. Better you know some locals there who show you around. But anyway. Negril has really a nice beach and it's very relaxing in the evenings. But there is no city. Negril is only build with hotels and there live hardly Jamaicans. Montego Bay has a Hip Strip where all the tourists go, there are 1000s of souvenir shops and hotels. There is a downtown which is quite interesting. But in the evening it's quite dead. Ocho Rios is strange. The whole city (almost souvenir shops again) is dead, but when the big cruise ships arrive the town is crowed with tourists. The ships leave at about 5pm and then the town is dead again. There is one market place and one big nightclub where you can find locals but hardly any pub where you can listen to music and hang out. The crime rate is very high. The were 66 murders in the first 20 days of the year in Kingston. Ok, there is a gang fight at the moment, but anyway. So if you go there, don't expect too much and try to find a friend who knows where to go.

A warm welcome, the sign says: If you believe in life after death come across the fence!
