Farewell to Thailand

Monday 21 June (cont.)
Last night in Bangkok

We were pretty exhausted after our day out and decided to eat at the hotel's restaurant "Pratunum Gourmet X-Press". The prices were a little expensive but the food and service was good. After dinner we went for a walk down to the Big C shopping centre.

We bought a few last minute items and stopped for an icecream. We sat on the front steps and watched the crowd pass by. The World Trade Centre is opposite the Big C Centre.

Tried to get a tuk-tuk home but they wanted to charge too much for only two blocks. So we trudged our weary feet all the way home. We stayed up and watched an awful movie called "Bio-dome" which starred Kylie Minogue and eventually fell asleep at midnight.

Farewell Bangkok

Awoke at 7am this morning and took a leisurely breakfast. The rambuttan fruit is exquisite along with the papaya. After breakfast we went back over to the markets for a last look around.

Now at our last internet place to send our final emails. Back to the hotel for for a rest, really tired looking forward to going home. At 4.40pm we went down for a refreshing swim. It was quite windy around the pool so we only stayed til 5pm.

We finished our final packing and checked out at 6pm. Our plane doesn't leave til 11.30pm tonight so we left our bags at reception. The traffic was really heavy so we decided to walk down to the Central World Plaza and grab some dinner.

After dinner we walked around the Centre then crossed the road to look at the Gaysorn Plaza. The shops in both these centres are very expensive so we decided to check out the street stalls.

We made our way slowly back to the Indra buying a few last trinkets on the way. We went up to the Chandelier Bar and I used my last free coupon for an Irish Coffee. At 8.30pm we got a metered taxi to the airport (140bt). The hotel taxi offered me a discount rate of 300bt normally 500bt. It is always better just to get a metered taxi off the street.

We had a couple of hours to kill at the airport. I had 200bt to use up so grabbed a coffee for 80bt and used the internet facility for 100bt for one hour which wasn't too bad for airport prices. Jess used our last 20bt on a packet of chewing gum.

Finally, extremely tired we gladly boarded our Thai Airlines plane at 11.30pm. The flight home was uneventful, slept most of the way. We lost 3 hours on our return due to the time difference and arrived into Brisbane International airport at 11.10am, 23 June. It was wonderful to be back on Aussie soil again as the saying goes "there's no place like home"!

It had been a wonderful trip and a real eye-opener for Jess. She gained so much knowledge and experience in the past three weeks.

Thailand is really an amazing place and I would like to return one day for a third trip.
