April 24, 2004: Day 18
After a horrible headache and puking my guts out well into the morning, Jene and I made our way from Bern to beautiful Interlaken. Despite the generosity of our hosts the previous night, Jene suffered an unfortunate mishap (literally and figuratively speaking) at the hands of Alex. Albeit funny and gross, we left Bern with our prides a little tattered: Me, with my puke on the streets; her, with the 'phalanges' encounter.
We originally planned on staying at Koreanhof, but Gunther--hostel owner of The Mystery Hostel enticed us with a great deal, including offers of free internet and bike rentals, not to mention his multi-sloaganed van and we were sold.
Our hostel was a tiny mess, but with all the amenities, we couldn't complain.
Gunther...weird, but such a sweetheart
Gunther was very nice. He would always talk in monologues and give us pointers about what to do/where to go. Before each destination, he always said if we needed a ride, all we had to do was give him a call. He was an entrepreneur so he plastered his advertisements all over his big white van--ads for hostels, bike rentals, taxi service, tours-- they all had a spot. It was pretty damn hilarious.
