Round the world in 90 days!

New Year´s Eve in Madrid. I can´t remember whose idea it was, but it was brilliant! Actually, come to think of it I´m sure it was mine . . .

So after spending many nights squished among the hordes of people in the main square, we decided to avoid doing that and decided to go out for dinner instead. This proved a little difficult as New Year is a big eat at home family affair in Spain so many restaurants were shut or only taking pre-booked tables. Anyhoo, we decided we´d give it a shot . . .

Our new friend Candy gave us a call and came out to meet us. We ended up going to a tapas bar that we had already been to before as it was the only restaurant open that would have us!

The tradition in Spain is to eat one grape for every stroke of the clock at midnight. So after finishing dinner, we ran home with Candy, turned on the tele (they do the counting for you), got the grapes ready and poured the champers. We all squeezed the 12th grape in our mouths and tried kissing eachother Feliz Año Nuevo without spluttering grape juice too much. It is actually quite the task eating 12 grapes in quick succession.

Shortly after this Bingo went woohoo and Candy went home

Julius and Nathan swapped one shoe each . . .

and we were ready for action.

We went for a stroll through the main square of Spain and met many funny people.

The boys walked around with odd shoes all night.
