Backpacking (Western) Europe

Travel time: April 2004  |  by Christina E.

Spain: Valencia

April 16, 2004:

With our eurail pass and 'magic pens' in tow, we soon arrived to Valencia, where we expected to see a celebration of Las Fallas and its gigantic statuesque dolls as depicted in Jene's guidebook. We were quickly disappointed to discover that the festivities took place about a month ago.

Nevertheless, we decided to walk around and see what Valencia, the aristocratic city, had to offer. It was pretty much a city of shopping and commerce, not too much to see. Not too surprising that we only stayed a day.

The next morning, we took the bus to see the Science Museum. We didn't go in, but just the architecture alone was enough to satisfy. For dinner, Jene and I ordered some of the world famous Paella Valenciana, supposedly what Valencia is notorious for. Well, maybe it was the restaurant we ate at, but we've sure had better in Barcelona.

After our one-day hiatus, we took the train into Madrid that night, so we could travel to the medieval town of Toledo the following day.
