Travel time: March - August 2009  |  by alex alex

Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville, or Kompong Pom, as called by the locals, is a booming seaside resort on the Gulf of Thailand and pretty much the Mallorca or Lloret del Mar of Cambodia. Dozens of guesthouses, beach bars, entertainment of all kinds, and whenever I walked alone and got spotted by a moto-driver, I could be sure to be offered female company or narcotics.

On the beaches, the vendors are equally obtrusive as in Angkor. Apart from that, Sihanoukville is a beautiful place with several long, white and clean beaches, refreshing climate and some tropical islands and the Ream National park with its birdlife sanctuary and mangrove swamps nearby.
