Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur(Nora writes)

Kuala Lumpur

We planned our train trip to Singapore in such a way that we have a full afternoon to discover Kuala Lumpur.

After an amazing journey which cost us approx. 12 pounds (18 euros) from Thailand (Hat Yai) to Singapore in a rather NICE train

Yeah....We wish! You don't get on that train for 12 pounds! (Eastern & Oriental express).....2 hours later we were living it up sitting on plastic seats & eating pot noodles on our train

We arrived at 6am ish in Kuala Lumpur and were starving as we haven't had any lunch or dinner the previous day... (why? Because it said departure from Hat Yai at 3pm but in fact the departure was in Malaysian time which is one hour ahead... luckily we DID NOT miss the train but we missed our lunch....in the train we realized we only had a few baht left so the only thing we could afford were cup noodles!)
At 6am in the morning nothing was open except McDonalds where we had breakfast.

Fuelled with energy we made our way to the famous PETRONAS TOWERS (everybody watching Entrapment - "Verlockende Falle" with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones)....

There they are again!

There they are again!

The ride up to the bridge is free - the weather was fantastic so we had a marvelous view....

After that we explored the rest of Kuala Lumpur (well as much as we could in 8 hours)...

...We both really like KL - the city is quite diverse - there are very modern Western parts like huge shopping malls and fantastic hotels and restaurants and then there is the Chinese Quarter as well as the old colonial district.

As one tower wasn't enough we also went up the KL TV tower which was quite impressive as well as it also gives you a great view over the Petronas towers....

...The Merdeka Square was really pretty - that's where the independence of Malaya was declared in 1957. At the square you can find the national museum, the old parliament and some other interesting sights.
